E3 2020 Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

E3, the World’s largest Gaming Event, has fallen victim to the recent outbreak of Corona Virus. Reports are stating that the event, due to take place in Los Angeles in June this year, has been axed for safety reasons amidst the global outbreak of the COVID-19.

The virus outbreak, has resulted in the cancellation of many events across the world. This is due to the spike in reported illnesses that countries are now experiencing. The contagious nature of the virus, has stopped Football events, Festivals and now the biggest Gaming event in the World.

#E3Cancelled is Trending

The news spread through Twitter quickly, as Gaming fans, some of which were looking forward to attending the event this year, received word of the rumour that the event was in fact about to be cancelled. The official report came at around 4.30pm from the official E3 Twitter account, followed quickly by publishers making statements.

UbiSoft were one of the first to announce the news on instagram, with the caption “An update regarding E3 2020.”

The post read “The health and well-being of teams, players and partners is our top priority, so while we’re disappointed, we fully support the ESA’s decision to cancel E3 2020. E3 is and will continue to be a moment where we come together as a community and share our love for games.” The post continued with “We’re exploring other options for a digital experience that will allow us to share all the exciting news we have planned, stay tuned for more.”

The suggestion of a digital experience has been taken on by other publishers, including console giants Microsoft, who announced that the XBOX SERIES X will be unveiled in a digital event instead. Although we have been given details regarding the new launch, Phil Spencer stated that more information would be given in the lead up to E3.

With over 66,000 visitors recorded at last years event, the decision to cancel E3 has the backing of the whole Gaming industry, including STEALTH. For more information on the E3 cancellation please visit the Official E3 Website.
