Bringing Joy to Children in Hospital: STEALTH Partners with Starlight Children's Foundation

We are proud to share that our partnership with Starlight Children's Foundation has reached an exciting milestone,  one that we believe reflects the very best of what the gaming and technology industry can do when it chooses to give back. The launch of Starlight's new Active Gaming Box marks a significant step forward in bringing meaningful, therapeutic play to children across the United Kingdom who are undergoing medical treatment, and we are honoured to have played a role in making it possible.

Through our STEALTH brand, ABP Technology has committed over £27,000 worth of gaming accessories to support this initiative. The donation includes controllers, headphones, racing wheels, and cases,  carefully selected products designed to enrich the play experiences available to children in hospital settings and to complement the outstanding work already being carried out by health play professionals every day.

What is the Starlight Children's Foundation's Active Gaming Box?

The Active Gaming Box is a dedicated gaming resource developed by Starlight Children's Foundation to boost therapeutic play across healthcare environments in the UK. It is currently being distributed to health play teams in hospitals, clinics, and hospices, and the response so far has been remarkable. More than 240 health settings have already received the new boxes, including children's A&E departments, district general and specialist hospitals, children and adolescent mental health teams, and a dental hospital.

Each box is thoughtfully put together to offer children choice, engagement, and a sense of control during what can be an incredibly challenging and frightening time in their lives. The accessories complement Nintendo Switch consoles and Ring Fit Adventure, making movement more fun and engaging. Rather than passive entertainment, the emphasis is on active, purposeful play that supports both physical and emotional recovery.

These movement-based games support gentle exercise in a hospital room and can help build strength, flexibility, and balance, supporting physiotherapy goals while reducing stress, lifting mood, and giving children a sense of progress. Games such as these can bring families and staff together through play, too.

The Therapeutic Power of Play

It is easy to underestimate just how important play is for a child in a hospital. For many young patients, a stay in a healthcare setting means long periods of uncertainty, discomfort, and separation from their normal routines, friends, and activities. Play is not a luxury in this context; it is a fundamental part of a child's wellbeing and, in many cases, their recovery.

Starlight's Service Delivery Manager, Elizabeth Townsend, articulates this powerfully. Gaming, she explains, supports child development in ways that go far beyond simple entertainment. It improves focus and memory. It develops problem-solving skills and encourages goal setting. It builds both gross and fine motor skills and fosters teamwork and communication. It gives children a creative outlet, builds confidence and emotional resilience, and teaches patience and self-regulation. Perhaps most importantly of all, it makes space for joy,  something every child deserves, regardless of their circumstances.

The feedback from healthcare settings that have already received the Active Gaming Box has been deeply moving. Vicky Fernandes of the A&E Play Team at University Hospital Lewisham described the donation as making a real difference for adolescent patients who often spend long periods in the Children's Emergency Department, noting that access to the gaming equipment helps ease anxiety and stress, and gives young people something positive to focus on during difficult moments.

Why STEALTH Got Involved With The Starlight Children's Foundation

At STEALTH and ABP Technology, we have always believed that gaming has the power to connect, inspire, and uplift. It is at the heart of everything we do as a business. When the opportunity arose to partner with Starlight Children's Foundation and contribute directly to the well-being of children in healthcare, it felt like a natural and important step.

Daniel Kelly, Brand Manager at STEALTH, summed up the sentiment well:

"STEALTH is committed to supporting communities and families by making gaming more accessible. This partnership allows the company to contribute products that will be used directly by children who benefit from Starlight's services. We're proud to support Starlight and the incredible work they do. Donating our products to enhance the Active Gaming Box felt like a natural way for us to give back, and we're excited to play a role in bringing joy and play to children who need it most."

This is precisely the kind of initiative that reminds us why the work we do matters. The products we develop and distribute every day have the potential to make a genuine difference in people's lives,  and this partnership is a vivid example of that potential being realised.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

Nicola Wilson, Starlight's Head of Corporate Fundraising, said: "We're thrilled to partner with STEALTH on this exciting development. This support enables us to reach more children with high-quality, inclusive play experiences. Every child deserves to play. The boxes are designed to be accessible, and the games feature characters and cultures from around the world. Settings can be adapted to meet different needs so no child is left out."

That commitment to inclusivity is something we fully share. Gaming should be for everyone, and we are glad that, through this partnership, more children, regardless of their background, ability, or medical situation, will have access to the kind of engaging, meaningful play that Starlight has championed for decades.

Looking Ahead

We are excited to continue developing our relationship with Starlight Children's Foundation and to explore further ways in which STEALTH and ABP Technology can support their mission. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to seeing the Active Gaming Box reach even more children and healthcare settings across the UK in the months ahead.
